Quoted from the preceding Code of Federal Regulations document:
“Pressure and fired vessels must have maintenance inspection, rating, repair, and alteration performed in accordance with the applicable provisions of API Pressure Vessel Inspection Code: In-Service Inspection, Rating, Repair, and Alteration, API 510 (except Sections 6.5 and 8.5) (incorporated by reference as specified in §250.198).” Note – Section numbers appear to be incorrect for this edition of API 510.
Quoted from Minerals Management Service Publication RIN 1010-AC95 NBIC is an excellent generic code applicable to boilers and pressure vessels in general industrial uses. However, API 510 is designed specifically for the petroleum and chemical process industries; therefore, MMS has recognized API 510 as the appropriate code to provide the safest maintenance inspection, rating, repair, and alteration of pressure vessels in service in the OCS.
